- Diatoms: single-celled protist (algae) part of phytoplankton
- Plankton: communityof organisms that float and drift
- Organelles: tiny structures in cells that carry out important functions
- Asexual Reproduction: the production of offspring by one parent
- Sexual Reproduction: the production of offspring by two parents
- Algal Bloom: algal bloom sudden increase in the algae population
- Brown Tide: an algal bloom of diatoms that clouds shallow, coastal waters
4.3 SECTION REVIEW
- glassy cell wall and position of the chloroplasts are adaptations that increase the rate of photosynthesis
- the marine animals depend on the diatoms as their food source
- it changes the water they swim or drink from brown

FACTS:
- shellfish such as mussels, clams ,oysters and many others consume diatoms by filtering them from the seawater.
- diatom are neede in sexual reproduction to develop either a male or female.
- there are more then 25,000 species of diatoms
Summary:
Diatoms are a big part of the ocean life they are needed by many species in the sea. They play a big part in sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction. Diatoms is the reason why most species are alive today and are healthy. Without diatoms many species wouldnt have a vey long life span today.
